About Me

Lisa speaking about "Club Eva" project during an event at Fundación Red in Bogotá, Colombia, 2024.

My
Story

Hi, I am Lisa Marie, I'm a video journalist based in New York City.

Since I was eight, I have been involved in the fight against Child Sexual Abuse in Colombia, where I'm from. I did it through a wonderful foundation named Fundación Red. As I grew up, I discovered my passion for storytelling through video and advocacy for women's and children's rights. Through the foundation, I have been able to create campaigns like Mi Pijama, Mi Escudo whose goal is to teach the population about the importance of preventing sexual abuse. I am co-author of a book named Los Niños del Viento ("The Children of the Wind"), a narrative piece that speaks about the beginnings of the foundation and includes practical ways of preventing, identifying, and reporting this crime. In 2024, we developed a program for teenage girls, Club Eva, a space focused on educating them in the prevention of sexual violence and promoting support among them, healthy relationships, and positive self-esteem. I currently lead this program.

In 2020, I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Communications and Journalism from La Sabana University in Bogotá, Colombia. During the program, I had the opportunity to visit El Buen Pastor female prison in Bogotá, where I met three mothers who told me their heartbreaking stories. I found that people want to be heard, and I started to gain consciousness about my role as an empathic journalist. Also, I developed skills in narrative visual storytelling, which were evident after my work was published by El Tiempo, the most viewed media outlet in the Country. In the 10-minute audiovisual piece, I portrayed the struggles of a Wayuú indigenous group in La Guajira, Colombia.

In 2021, I traveled to New York City where I started a first year of what would be a MFA in Documentary Filmmaking, and participated in DOC NYC Film Festival as a director with my first vérité piece. In 2022, I traveled to finish the program in Los Angeles, California.

In 2024, I traveled once again to New York to study at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. During the program, I reinforced my audiovisual skills making new films with a journalistic approach, and developed new skills such as photojournalism. I graduated with a MS in Journalism in 2025.
